The Importance of body language

By reading a person’s body language, we can actually accurately decode the person’s thoughts, emotions, or mood. People may tell lies but their body will silently and unconsciously give them away. Thus, knowledge of body language can help you know what your friends, family, boss, customer or anyone is trying to hide from you. You will also understand their feelings and thoughts better.

Besides, your own body language can also influence what other people may think or feel about you. If you do it right, you will be liked and trusted. But if you send the wrong signals - your business, career, relationships, and even self-esteem may suffer.

For instance, if you have a habit of touching your nose, people may think that you are lying. You might simply have that habit even when you're telling the truth, but people won’t know. They unconsciously interpret your gesture as untrustworthy and judge you based on your actions.

Why go through the trouble of being misinterpreted when you can avoid it? Understanding the meaning and uses of specific body gestures will allow you to change your approach and act only in ways that will result in maximum compliance.

Just imagine how much sales you will lose if your body language communicates dishonesty or offends your clients... without you being aware of it! But if you know how to use body language, you will be able to avoid sales pitfalls and convey body signals that make your customers say "yes!"

Body language is not only applicable in sales or business. You may also miss out on that important date or job opportunity just because your body language is unconsciously sending negative signals. That is why learning and knowing body language is a key component of your daily activities.
