Symphatic Listening
In symphatic listening,we care about other person and this is shown when we pay close attention and express our sorrow for their ills and happiness at their joys. When we are a symphatic listener,we can only feel sorry for others and we would not be able to put ourself in their situation. For example,if a teenager were told about a conflict between husbnand and wife,he/she can only be sorry about the matter and he/she could not exactly feel the same as the person who is affected.
Empathic Listening
Empathic listening is an organized listening and questioning technique, which helps us develop and enhance relationships through a stronger understanding of what is being conveyed both intellectually and emotionally. In a way,it helps us to take active listening techniques to a new level.Honest and effective use of empathic listening helps us to win the trust of team members, which helps us to find the root cause of certain problems.Sometimes, this ability to see people’s obvious behavior can make the difference between seeming harsh and unsympathetic on one hand, and on the other being humane and well-respected.When we listen empathetically,we go beyond sympathy to seek a truer understand how others are feeling. This requires excellent discrimination and close attention to the emotional signals. When we are being truly empathetic,we actually feel what they are feeling and put ourself in their situation.
Either it is emphatic or symphatic, listen patiently to what other people has to say, before you jump into conclusion. This is because if you were to interrupt other people who are talking, message may get distorted and this will eventually lead to relationship conflicts.
